Bis Aufs Messer Records is an independent record shop at Marchlewskistraße 107 in the Friedrichshain district of Berlin, Germany. Founded in October 2006 by Robert Schulze and Stefan, the shop grew out of the separate mail-order businesses they had previously operated around their respective independent record labels. During its early years, Bis Aufs Messer focused strongly on hardcore, punk, grindcore, sludge, doom and black metal before gradually expanding into a much broader range of underground music.

Vinyl remains the main format, alongside cassettes, a smaller selection of CDs, books, fanzines and merchandise. The catalogue covers punk, hardcore, metal, noise, drone, post-punk, garage, experimental music, jazz, folk and electronic music. Metal remains a substantial part of the stock, including contemporary underground releases and harder-to-find records. Most of the material is new, supplemented by a smaller second-hand selection.

Bis Aufs Messer has deep roots in Berlin’s DIY music scene. The shop has occasionally hosted small performances and art exhibitions, while its owners have long been involved with independent labels and concert promotion. It is also closely connected with Robert Schulze’s ADAGIO830 label, founded in 1995 and releasing punk, hardcore and experimental music. Stefan’s Vendetta Records was similarly connected with the shop during its earlier years.

Around two decades after opening, Bis Aufs Messer remains at its original Friedrichshain address, retaining the punk, hardcore and metal roots from which the shop developed while continuing to explore a much wider range of underground music.
