KUMA’S CORNER – SCHAUMBURG

Kuma’s Corner – Schaumburg is a heavy metal-themed burger bar at 1570 E Golf Road in Schaumburg, Illinois. Opened in July 2015, it was the first suburban location of the Chicago-based Kuma’s Corner and brought the concept established at the original Avondale restaurant ten years earlier to a considerably larger space. The restaurant occupies a 3,529-square-foot unit opposite Woodfield Mall.

As at the original Kuma’s, heavy metal is central to the restaurant rather than simply part of the decoration. Burgers are named after bands, with names such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer and Mastodon appearing on the menu, alongside a rotating Burger of the Month that frequently pays tribute to metal and punk acts. Music videos and complete concert performances are shown on a large video wall, and management noted shortly after opening that Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante had already become a repeat visitor.

The Schaumburg location is larger and more open than the cramped original Chicago restaurant, but retains the same mixture of heavy music, oversized burgers and rock-bar atmosphere. One of its most distinctive features is the large screen used for metal videos and concerts; Kuma’s own description even uses watching GWAR on the screen as an example of the intended experience. The bar also has a 32-tap draught system concentrating heavily on Chicago-area and independent breweries, including breweries such as Revolution, Pipeworks and Marz.

The Schaumburg restaurant proved successful immediately, reportedly taking more business on its opening day than the two Chicago Kuma’s locations combined. It has survived while several later Kuma’s branches have closed, and remains one of three active locations in 2026 alongside the original in Chicago and the Indianapolis branch.
