MetalEdge Records and Tapes is an independent record shop at 6682 N Northwest Highway in the Edison Park neighbourhood of Chicago, Illinois. Owned by Paul Giamarusti, the physical store opened in late 2019 and specialises in heavy metal, hard rock and classic rock.
The shop carries new and used vinyl, CDs and cassettes, with bands such as Judas Priest, Accept, Dio, Manowar, Metallica, KISS, Thin Lizzy, UFO and Motörhead well represented in the stock. Punk and other forms of rock also appear, while rare and less obvious releases are an important part of the selection. The relatively small premises are densely packed with records, giving the shop the feel of a traditional specialist record store.
MetalEdge also buys collections and individual records, with a particular interest in hard rock and metal vinyl. Giamarusti’s own musical background is reflected strongly in the stock, which is built around the bands and styles he grew up with rather than current mainstream trends.
The shop has also hosted release parties and live music events, including performances in the rear patio area, and has taken part in neighbourhood events such as Edison Park Fest. This has given MetalEdge a small but active community role alongside its main function as a specialist record shop.
