MAYHEM

Mayhem in Langhus, Norway

Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Langhus in 1984. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene, and their music has strongly influenced the genre. The band later moved near Kråkstad, a small village in Nordre Follo, where they rented a house to live and practice. This house became infamous when vocalist Dead committed suicide inside on 8 April 1991. Later, Mayhem moved to Oslo, where Euronymous started the record store Helvete.

Key members of the band are as follows: Euronymous (Øystein Aarseth), born in Surnadal, Norway; Necrobutcher (Jørn Stubberud), born in Oslo; Dead (Per Yngve Ohlin), from Västerhaninge in Stockholm County, Sweden; Hellhammer (Jan Exel Blomberg), from Trysil, Norway; Count Grishnackh (Varg Vikernes), from Bergen, Norway; Attila Csihar, from Budapest, Hungary; and Maniac (Sven Erik Kristiansen), from Rukjan, Norway.

Euronymous is buried in Ski next to Ski Middelalderkirke, while Dead is buried at Österhaninge cemetery in Stockholm County.
